“All those who listen to me live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.” Proverbs 1:33
Peace is the promise to everyone who listens and takes heed to the wisdom and guidance of God. Later in the Gospels Jesus affirms his peace was not like the anemic and temporal versions offered from worldly sources, but was backed by the support and promises of the Kingdom of his Father, who made all things, sustains all things, and who decides the destiny of all things.
While we have the promise of peace from God, the verse above does not promise the absence of harm in this earth life, but strength from God to eliminate the effects of the fear of harm. This is the peace which enabled Paul to write in his letter to the Corinthians, “O death where is your victory? O death where is your sting?” (1 Cor. 15:55) The peace from God is beyond our ability to comprehend, and from the One who always keeps His word.
Lord Jesus, without you peace is a mere concept, but in you I can rest knowing you will always provide sufficient peace equal to the task and call where you lead. Amen.
