The Lord our fortress
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.” Psalm 27:1-3
There is mist lying low in the small valley near our house this morning. The light of morning has yet to arrive, and even though I peered carefully across familiar landscape I was not able to see anything because as it was cloaked in darkness and fog. The almost eerie appearance is often described in mystery novels and films. A short time later, however, dawn cast enough light to convert what was previously hidden into a beautiful and peaceful scene.
In the Lord we have unending light which penetrates the darkness. His light brings hope, peace, and the ability to see the path he leads us on. We need not fear what is hidden if our trust is in the Lord for he is our protector from the dangers that would harm us.
We learn from this Scripture we are not exempt from the enemy’s attack, but we are sustained by the unlimited qualities and abilities of Christ Jesus, the Victor!
Lord, the Psalmist David wrote that he could sit at your table in the very presence of his enemies and be at peace for You were with him there. You are my light and my salvation; You are my refuge and stronghold, my fortress. I should not fear, but rest in Your strength and peace. I am confident that regardless of the enemy’s strategy to do me harm this day, You are greater to deliver and protect me. And so, lead me in Your will for me this day. Amen.
"rescue us from the evil one."
