The irreversible promises of God
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies. To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.” Isaiah 61:1-3
The entire Bible speaks truth, power, and life! This passage is one of tremendous power, for it forecasted the truth of the coming liberation for all mankind through the Savior Jesus Christ. God fulfilled His promise motivated by His love and display of mercy. When Christ appeared on the earth He successfully completed the Father’s plan for humankind’s reconciliation. When God makes a promise, He fulfills it!
Once that promise was completed, an irreversible threshold existed for all who would repent and believe in God’s only Son, and pass from the bleak sentence of eternal darkness and the futile attempt to escape by human initiative and pass into His glorious light and to abide in His presence forever in worship and honor of Him.
For I was poor in spirit and You came with good news. You brought comfort and healed my broken heart. You liberated me from a prison of darkness and poured Your favor over me. As with Your people Israel, I received beauty for ashes, joy in the place sadness, and praise for despair. Through Your grace I am Your planting. Amen.
