The Word

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through Him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through Him and for Him. He existed before anything else, and He holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is His body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So He is first in everything. For God in all His fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through Him God reconciled everything to Himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.” Colossians 1:15-20

This is one of Scripture’s pinnacles in presenting Christ as the singular unequaled deity. This passage brings great hope, security, and respect to those who adore Christ. However, for those who resist His grace and love in exchange for the paths of unbelief, self-seeking, or the fantasy of other gods, these are troublesome verses.

Paul presents Christ, along with all His accomplishments, unparalleled power, ultimate authority, and unstoppable purpose and will, as God Almighty!

The climax reveals the power and absoluteness of the work of the cross as God made peace with everything through the sacrifice of the Son and His defeat over the darkness forever.

I praise You today for Your reign over all things and Your divine gift of grace through Christ. You in all Your glory, wisdom, and power are the Lord over my life, and you have ordained the steps You have for me to follow through this day. Amen.
