The character of wisdom
“But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.” James 3:16-18
Throughout the Proverbs we see the benefit of seeking God’s wisdom, the character and qualities of which are shared in the letter of James.
God’s wisdom is pure, that is, perfect and without flaw. God’s wisdom will not fail to fulfill its intended purpose. God’s wisdom manifests with perfect motivations, unlike any worldly sources of wisdom. The manifestation of the wisdom of God is genuine peace, gentleness, and willingness to yield to others.
Those walking in the Lord’s wisdom display mercy and their lives marked by good deeds. They will not show favoritism, they are peacemakers, and the fruit produced by God through them will yield a harvest of righteousness.
Lord, I pray for your perfect wisdom, for it delivers me from folly and the plans of the evil one, and will reflect the fruit and life of your kingdom. Amen.
"rescue us from the evil one."
